Let’s face it, there aren’t as many “dad” and “fatherhood” websites that offer an encouraging or supportive word as there are “mom” and “motherhood” sites. Maybe it’s because guys sometimes (not always, but sometimes) don’t like to admit that they need such things? I don’t know.
One thing I do know: being a father is probably one of the hardest jobs you will ever do; and doing it right is even harder. For those people lucky enough to have been brought up with an awesome dad, it’s still a tough job. For those unlucky enough to not have a positive male role model in their lives, it’s going to be even more difficult.
But, difficult does not mean impossible. It just means difficult in a way that says, “you just have to persevere!” Nothing truly worthwhile comes without at least some effort. Even winning a lottery entailed the effort to buy the ticket.
What if you’re totally new to daddy-hood? One thing you, as a new father (or maybe you’re a father-to-be) can do is seek out positive people you admire to talk with. If you see kids who seem to be especially happy or well-adjusted (or, at least as well-adjusted as can be expected in this world), make an effort to learn what their parents do. How do they seem to interact with their kids? If you see them together at the playground, take notice of how they speak to their children.
Stick around here at this site, and hopefully we will be posting information that will be helpful to you!
